about

Track 3 on the upcoming new album from Hakim Jamal, 'Not Too Busy To Hate.'

The album is soulful, jazzy, funky and right-on - being dedicated to and largely about the struggle for racial equality worldwide. Check out the other available tracks: Sistah-G, Alphabet City, Broken and 10 Point Program.

This track was inspired by two things: firstly the incredible Aretha Franklin movie 'Amazing Grace' and secondly by the recent eulogies of the Rev. Al Sharpton following the murder of George Floyd. It's really about the power of belief in adversity.

lyrics

I hear voices
I see people
I hear gunshots
I fear evil
They can’t hurt me
Though they try to
Got my brothers
I’ve got my pride too

What’s my purpose?
What’s my passion?
What’s the way that
My soul is fashioned?
It’s the reason
That you came down
I believe it
Ain’t gonna break down
