Illuminate is one of 4 songs taken from the new album by Hakim Jamal, 'In My Mind.'

The album is unlike anything we have produced before. It references the work of Isaac Hayes, whose epic soul symphonies often extended beyond 10 minutes per track. Consequently, this album has only 4 tracks: Impulsive, Immanent, Illuminate and Interplanetary. Each is between 12 and 15 minutes long; drawing from the experience of black musicians in the 70s and the fascination with inner as well as outer space. This manifests itself in songs about astrology, superstition, the occult, paranoia.

This song is about loneliness and isolation. The central character seeks the safety of her car to insulate herself from outside forces, yet she is drawn by one person, on whom she is becoming dangerously psychologically dependent.
