about

Track 2 on the album 'Not Too Busy To Hate.' This track is an ironic look at the idea of escaping from your past. The audio at the beginning is by Civil Rights activist and comedian Dick Gregory, describing the experience of seemingly being continually in trouble with the law.

It takes its title from the 1973 movie, in which Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek go on the run across the vast deserts of the American west. I've updated the theme to include a rather less passive female character - in fact, one who successfully turns the tables at the end (spoiler alert!)

lyrics

Saw you workin’ by the music stand / With your
Leopardskin Pillbox and your / fake tan
Fishnet stockings / ripped at the back
I think I’m gonna have a heart attack
Baby - baby
Don't you worry baby / Gonna make you mine
(And there ain’t nothin you can do about it)
Like birds of a feather baby
Let’s stick together – and have a real bad time

I’ll take you ridin’ in my Rolls Royce
Somebody once said it could be good for my voice
Highway 10 to the state line
Criminal behaviour was right on my mind
Baby - baby
Don't you worry baby / I’m glad you’re mine
(Because we on the run now)
Put a little sugar on it baby
It’s gonna last / a very long time

I just love the things you do
Sissy Spacek / Ain’t got nothin’ on you
(Or even Karen Black – and I love Karen Black)

Feet up on the dashboard, wind in your hair
Red lipstick traces on your cigarette / With your
.357 in your Gucci bag / We gonna
Wrap ourselves in the American flag
Baby - baby
Don't you worry baby / I know your name
(And I didn’t even have to ask – I just knew)
If they ever catch us / Just put a match in the gas tank
And burst into flames

We in the Badlands
I’m a bad man
Can you handle that?
If not – whatchagonnado’boutit?
Can you deal with it? / In the mornin’
How you gonna feel about it?
(I bet you don’t give a shit)
