The song is about Richard M. Nixon, running for President Of The United States in 1968, is the man who is known as maybe the dirtiest operator of them all. He aligns himself with the religious right to make him look morally wholesome, but really he’s a sleazeball. In this song he’s divesting himself of anyone who might later be a ‘problem’ to him, including girlfriends who he might have picked up along the way, who might engage in ‘pillow talk.’ This song is written from the point of view of one of them.
